History

Mexico City is the oldest capital in the Americas. It was the Aztec capital in 1325 and then when Mexico was conquered by Spain in 1521it became “New Spain’s” capital. When Mexico became an independent country in 1821, it remained as the capital of the new country where it grew into a massive modern cultural iconic city.

Travel by Time of Year

Spring (March–May): Warm and pleasant, the city’s peak season for pleasant temperatures (49 F to 80 F) before the summer rains. March and April are perfect for comfortably exploring.
Summer (June–August): Very rainy and humid, with high-altitude, cool evenings. Expect afternoon showers, often clearing for evening activities
Fall (September–November): Late fall is arguably the best, says Reddit users, offering pleasant, cooler weather and huge cultural events like Day of the Dead. September is often less crowded and cheaper.
Winter (December–February): Dry and sunny days, but very cold at night and in the mornings, with temperatures potentially dropping close to freezing.
