Vancouver, British Columbia

Situated between the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountains, Vancouver, British Columbia is known as the “Jewel of the West”. It is one of the few places in the world where you can ski or snow board in the morning and wind surf in the afternoon. Boasting more than 200 parks, Vancouver is one of the greenest and most beautiful cities you will see. An outdoor adventurer’s paradise, ideal for hiking, mountain biking, scuba diving, kayaking, skiing and snowboarding and more. The city is also known for its art, theater and music scene. Whether you are looking for a vacation with world class outdoor activities or a thriving city with fantastic food and culture…Vancouver has it all!

Best Time to Visit
Vancouver is ideal year round. The best time to visit depends on what you want for your trip. Vancouver has outdoor adventures any time. Ski season is best from November to April. If you want more of a taste of the urban city, try the spring or fall months as you will have fewer crowds and beautiful scenery.
 
Where to Stay
When I am in Canada, I like to stay at Fairmont Hotels which were founded in Canada. There are three great Fairmont Hotels in Vancouver. The Hotel Vancouver, The Farimont Pacific Rim and The Fairmont Waterfront.
 
Where to Eat
There are so many great places to dine in Vancouver. With it’s dense and diverse population, foods from all ethnic cultures abound in this great city. From Chinatown to Gastown there is plenty of great food and fresh fish. This award winning seafood and chop house is lively with great food and drinks.
What to do in Vancouver
Vancouver has something to do all year round. Your options are unlimited but here are some highlights and musts for those just visiting and experiencing this amazing city.
 
Stanley Park: North America’s third largest park and is a must when you visit Vancouver. Biking the Seawall, visit the world class Vancouver Aquarium, see the collection of First Nations totem poles, hike or bike the many trails and enjoy the Lost Lagoon, the views from Prospect Point or just relax and picnic on the beach or in one of the picnic areas with beautiful views.
 
Granville Island Public Market: This amazing indoor market features an array of food, art, theater, restaurants and bars. There are events year round so check the website to see what is happening during your visit.
 
Capilano Suspension Bridge: Enjoy the award winning experiences including the 450 foot long suspension bridge with amazing views and natural scenery. Owls watch you while you walk from through the tree top adventure. Truly something not to be missed. One of my favorite things to do.
 
Gastown Vancouver: lined with cobblestone streets, this National Historic Site of Canada is a fun way to spend an evening eating, boutique shops and fun tours including Ghost Tours. The neighbourhood was founded on a barThe Gastown clock is one of only a few steam clocks in the world.
 
Ghost tours: If you enjoy learning about the history in a unique way then Ghost Tours are for you. These tours are acted out by your tour guide who dresses stays in character during your tour. Truly a fun evening after you visit Gastown.

Festivals

Planning your trip around a festival of interest to you is a great idea. The Vancouver International Jazz Festival has had great performers like Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, Tito Puente, and Bobby McFerrin. For Foodies…The EAT! Vanouver Food Festival is a lot of fun and you can enjoy great gastronomic treats all over the city.
