History

Brussels grew from a small Senne river settlement into a major European commercial hub. It served as a vital Burgundian and Habsburg administrative center before becoming the capital of independent Belgium in 1830. Today, it is the de facto capital of the European Union.

Arts & Architectural and Sites

  • The Comic Book Tour started in the early 1990’s. Although Brussels has countless museums and art galleries, this unusual and fun art makes for a great break. The route passes by several comic book inspired murals all around the city center including The Smurfs, Tintin and others. You will find many galleries and stores where you can buy this memorabilia.

  • Brussels is a premier destination for architecture lovers, boasting a mix of UNESCO-listed Art Nouveau townhouses by Victor Horta, Baroque masterpieces on the Grand-Place, and unique Art Deco landmarks like the Atomium. The architecture in this square is one of the most dramatic town centers that you will ever see.

Food, Wine and Nightlife

Desserts are a must when in Brussels. And what is the capital of Belgium known for? Belgium Waffles of course. Belgium waffles can be eaten any time of day. There are sweet and savory waffles. You can get waffles at kiosks to full waffle houses like Lieges Waffle.

While in Brussels you should go on a chocolate tasting tour. Considered some of the best chocolate in the world, you can try so many high end chocolates at world class chocolatiers which you can find at the main mall in the town square.
